K-LUG - Rochester, MN Area Linux Users Group

Note: To request a wiki account, please join the mailing list and post a message.

We can use presentations for upcoming meetings, please see a list of ideas if you're willing but lacking a topic.

LUG News

We generally meet monthly for technical presentations (2nd Thursday of the month, 6 pm, RCTC), and monthly for socializing (varies). We no longer meet monthly for lunches, if you are interested in reviving this tradition please contact an officer.

Did you used to be on our email list and suddenly haven't gotten email for months? We had a glitch and it caused many people to get unsubscribed; unfortunately Tina doesn't have a way of knowing who all we lost. Please use "Linux mailing list" on the left to get yourself re-added, sorry!

Technical Meeting: October 13th

Arhelger on MongoDB.

Kevin Arhelger has been a Technical Services Engineer at MongoDB since January. His presentation will cover the basics of MongoDB and good/bad use cases. He’ll have stickers and a few coffee mugs to give away. Here’s a chance to play stump the expert.

Social: Saturday October 22nd, 10 am

Pumpkin tossing by trebuchet and catapult, at the Boy Scout's GameHaven. We're spectating, not participating. If in future years you want to participate, it sounds like community adults are allowed, chat about it on the email list.

The full schedule of events

The full advertising flier for the event, there's more than just flying pumpkins this year. There will be lumberjack games and other things happening, including a pancake+sausages breakfast, a MN DNR forestry talk, a raptor program, small animals to watch/learn/pet, flying apples to go with the flying pumpkins, etc.

You won't be able to gather around Tina for this one, sorry.

Planned Social: November 2016, TBD

Ideas can be found here or invent your own. What would you like to do? Tell Tina.

We probably won't have a November social unless someone has a specific request, as due to the approaching holiday season we tend to have very poor turnout this month.

Technical Meeting / Social: Friday December 9th, 6:00 pm-midnight

In December we do something like board or card games, video games, etc because it's just too close to Thanksgiving and Christmas to fit in a social and a speaker.

Tollefoto is hosting a gaming night at his house. Email him or Tina if you need address and/or directions. Start time is 6:00 pm. Note that this is NOT our usual second Thursday, we pushed it back one night so people don't have to deal with getting to work in the morning.

We play whatever you bring. Please consider bringing board games to play, snacks and/or drinks. RSVP's of the types of stuff you're bringing would be appreciated so we don't have overstocks of some items (such as everyone bringing chips).

Dinner - Tollefoto is still thinking on this, look for updates later.

Upcoming Meeting Crisis!

We need some meeting topics (& speakers) for 2016. We'd like to know what you want to see and hear about. Please email Tina or Jon G with suggestions for topics. Should we run some previous sessions again (maybe something you really wanted to see but missed out on)? What type of topics are good, what type are bad? Also see this page for a list of suggested topics http://www.k-lug.org/Meetings
