We do not have a speaker scheduled for the technical meeting that would be this Thursday.  <strike> So instead we'll play disc golf.
6 pm

Just up the road outside the RCTC field house. Meet at the parking lot edge / field house doors, 6 pm.

There is no moderator when using this software, so if we get invaded we will have to bail and figure out a different session ID and then also definitely use a password, that'd go out by email and/or wiki update ASAP.

Keep your eyes open as the evening of the 12th approaches, the weather forecast is questionable and we may need to switch to something with less soggy ground (such as a Pokémon Go walk) or under shelter (dinner somewhere).</strike>
Agenda:  Tell us about your holiday weekend.  Maybe we can get an LED wall update.  Hopefully we're all enjoying cooler, damper weather.

We have once again succeeded in summoning the rain gods! ;)  So no disc golf.  Instead we'll meet for 6 pm dinner at the [https://www.google.com/maps/place/Arby's/@44.0067322,-92.4756243,17z/data=!4m8!1m2!2m1!1sarby's,+rochester,+mn!3m4!1s0x0:0xf2e7601ea14a0b8e!8m2!3d44.0065443!4d-92.4750459 Arby's that is Apache Mall-adjacent].
Anything else you want to see on the agenda? Let Tim or Tina know.

Depending on what the weather is doing, timelines, and crowd interest, after dinner we will either disperse or maybe some will go across Hwy 14 to Soldier's Field for some Pokemon Go walking on paved trails.

Farm pizza!

[http://dreamacresfarm.org/wood-fired-pizza Dream Acres near Spring Valley], Friday September 27th, 6:45 pm (you're welcome to arrive earlier if your schedule allows, but they're 40 minutes south of Rochester).  They state to expect $15-25/pizza.  It's a working farm, so please leave the dogs at home.  You would need to bring your own beverages and place settings, from the pictures it looks like they'll provide some seating or you can bring your own.  I'm hoping by waiting until late in the season, the bugs will have died down, the tradeoff means 6:45 will be pretty close to sunset although we'll still have twilight.

Brent Vrieze will return to us from the Cities to present on his PFSense FreeBSD based firewall.

pfsense is an enterprise grade firewall for your home.  Based on FreeBSD with a custom kernel and many 3rd party software packages to do network monitoring, filtering, routing, DNSSEC, DNS over TLS, VPN.  A virtual kitchen sink of security tools in one package...free.
It can be installed on any X86 or X64 based CPU with minimal memory and storage requirements.  I personally use an AMD based Mini-ITX board that does not require a CPU fan with an old 4 port PCIe Intel NIC that supports VLAN tagging and so there are no moving HD parts a small SSD.

What might you want to do?  Tell Tina.  If we don't get a request we may skip a social this year (like we do many years), as people's schedules just get too full as the winter holiday season sets in.
=== December Annual Gaming Social:  TBD December ===
Volunteers to host would be appreciated, even more so if your house is accessible to those with reduced mobility.  If you volunteer to host, you determine what type of gaming we do (board, card, video).
Date - usually the Friday after the technical meeting 2nd Thursday, so that would be Friday December 13th.  But if you're the host, you can make the date fit your schedule.

Planned Socials: Fall or winter

-Murder mystery. The host needs to buy a kit at a gaming store to get the event started.

-Jim Henderson, "Silicon Valley" documentary

-Rock climbing at Prairie Walls

-Bowlocity laser tag. 5-6 people minimum needed.

-Liquid nitrogen ice cream. This needs a non-Tina organizer. Dennis DeLorme has 2 recipes. We need safety equipment and someone trained enough to keep us from freezing ourselves.

-MAME/foosball/ping pong at ... can't be Tim Massaro's anymore...

-February or July armchair mapping aka road rally event, http://home.earthlink.net/~oldmaltese/

Upcoming Meeting Crisis!

We need some meeting topics (& speakers) for 2019. We'd like to know what you want to see and hear about. Please email Tina with suggestions for topics. Should we run some previous sessions again (maybe something you really wanted to see but missed out on)? What type of topics are good, what type are bad? Also see this page for a list of suggested topics http://www.k-lug.org/Meetings
