=== Technical Meeting:  Thursday February 12th ===
Dennis DeLorme will present on [http://www.arduino.cc/ Arduino].  The usual place: RCTC's [http://www.roch.edu/html-spectrum/getting_to_ucr.html Heintz Center] , [http://www.rctc.edu/campustour/maps/heintzA.html Room HA107] , and time (6 pm).

'''Details on the Arduino Presentation'''

Arduino is an open source hardware and software project designed to make microcontrollers easy to use. It is based on the Atmel ATmega168, consisting of a defined hardware implementation with several form factors for different applications. The software development system is based on a C subset with predefined functions to take advantage of the hardware features. The intent is to provide an easy to use system for people to use in their creative endeavors - rather than worrying about low level details. See the http://www.arduino.cc homepage for more information.

Dennis DeLorme spent the majority of his career working on data base and file system implementation on the S/38, AS/400, and iSeries. Most recently he has been involved with the Roadrunner and Blue Gene supercomputing systems. For relaxation he enjoys the simplicity of working with microcontrollers. He has implemented a variety of projects using processors from Intel, Motorola, Microchip and now the Atmel AVR based Arduino.

This park has a nice playground for the littles, picnic tables, and room to fly kites, as well as usually being unpopulated.  The lack of trees and being on top of a hill mean it's pretty bug free (not that we should hopefully have to worry about that in April) even when there's not enough breeze to fly the kites.

=== Upcoming Meeting Crisis! ===
Well, not really a crisis, but we do need some meeting topics (& speakers) for 2009. We'd like to know what you want to see and hear about. Please email Tina or Tim with suggestions for topics. Should we run some previous sessions again (maybe something you really wanted to see but missed out on)? What type of topics are good, what type are bad? Also don't forget, Speakers earn up to $40 as an incentive for their presentation! Also see this page for a list of suggested topics http://www.k-lug.org/Meetings

We generally meet monthly for technical presentations (2nd Thursday of the month, 6 pm, virtual), and monthly for socializing (varies). We no longer meet monthly for lunches, if you are interested in reviving this tradition please contact an officer.

Outdoor Social: Saturday April 25

In celebration of National Kite Month, bring your kites and come join us as we try to fly them.

Saturday April 25th

2 pm

Location: That park by Steve Fox's house, officially known as Pine Ridge Estates Park, on Redwood Lane SW.

This park has a nice playground for the littles, picnic tables, and room to fly kites, as well as usually being unpopulated. The lack of trees and being on top of a hill mean it's pretty bug free (not that we should hopefully have to worry about that in April) even when there's not enough breeze to fly the kites.

Please bring your family and friends who might want to hang out. Bring your own kites. If you don't want to sit at the picnic tables or on the playground equipment, bring your own folding chair. And bring your own beverage. Since it's April, we're skipping the traditional ice cream.

Litter Bit Better in-person social (outside), Tuesday April 28th

Summit Pointe Park, in NW Rochester. Park on Shetland Drive NW, and observe the north/south boundaries in the linked map.

Bags provided. You bring your own gloves, grabbers, and sense of civic duty. Some pond shoreline. Unlike our fall CITOs, in the spring we've got plenty of daylight.

As usual we are teaming up with the geocachers to avoid being overwhelmed by garbage.

Virtual Social: Thursday May 14th

Upcoming Outdoor Socials TBD

We're planning pickleball, and a geocaching hike on a new trail at Northern Heights Park (start on the WSW side and walk clockwise).
