Post social report:
9 folks (and a puppy) attended the PCIG/K-Lug August social. This was a peaceful canoe ride down the Zumbro River from Oronoco to the Sandy Point landing. Most of the crew enjoyed geocaching along the way too.  There were [http://www.pcig.info/uploads/Newsletter/GeoCrewSm.jpg pictures] taken!

My experience with going on Monday night last year was that on-site parking was easy and free, some of the food trucks were open (including the milkshake stand), and many of the animals were already present including horse showings.  I’ve also been told that many craft projects will already be present, so we can do a scavenger hunt for projects by people we know.

The featured speakers this month are José de Leon of Winona State University and Bonnie Gabrick, a Winona State University student in Management Information Systems. They will talk about iPhone web development with the rapid web-development framework Ruby on Rails. Bonnie and José worked on a database-backed site in Rails, describing the technology inventory in each classroom at Winona State, and developed a mobile version of the website that exists alongside the default site. Like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, two cool technologies that go great together!

Winona360 (edutech.tlt.winona.edu/winona360) is an online journalism site that was built for the Mass Communications Department of Winona State University. We'll start at the dog park just north of Essex Park (red circle) for a short walk. Then depending on the walking conditions, we'll walk or drive to the two caches NE of that dog park (orange circle), and then down to the one Essex Park cache that we haven't chased recently (yellow circle). Join us at the March 13th meeting to help pick a day/time/location to help us meet the equinox souvenir criteria.

Afterwards, we'll drive to 25th Street and 25th Avenue NW, in the residential neighborhood just south of IBM park, for a locationless geocache.
