Frisbee golf, 7 pm, East Park. That's kitty-corner from the Heintz Center building, here's a map, email Tina if you need more detailed directions. You're welcome even if you don't own your own discs, or if you've never played. If you don't own your own, you can throw your shoe (entertaining but highly inefficient), or try to let us know in advance to bring a spare for you to borrow.

Lunch: Thursday June 17th

11:30 am, at the Apache Mall food court near B&N.

CANCELED June Technical Meeting

Tim and Tina are both unavailable to run a meeting, and we have no speaker. Past history suggests low summer attendance anyway. So in the usual arbitrary and capricious manner, this meeting has been canceled. Speakers are needed to volunteer for upcoming months.

Social: Thursday May 20th

Yes, the same day as lunch, hope you're not sick of us yet. Disc golf at East Park (kitty-corner from RCTC's Heintz Center), 7 pm. You're welcome even if you don't own your own discs, or if you've never played. If you don't own your own, you can throw your shoe (entertaining but highly inefficient), or try to let us know in advance to bring a spare for you to borrow.

Lunch: Thursday May 20th

11:30 am, at the Apache Mall food court near B&N.

Technical Meeting: Thursday May 13th

The featured speakers this month are José de Leon of Winona State University and Bonnie Gabrick, a Winona State University student in Management Information Systems. They will talk about iPhone web development with the rapid web-development framework Ruby on Rails. Bonnie and José worked on a database-backed site in Rails, describing the technology inventory in each classroom at Winona State, and developed a mobile version of the website that exists alongside the default site. Like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, two cool technologies that go great together!

Social: Thursday April 22nd

We'll be participating in Rochester's A Litter Bit Better campaign by helping to clean up section 346 of Bear Creek Park. 6:30 pm start, meet at the south end of the McQuillin Field parking lot, more details can be found here. Bring your own gloves, and anyone interested in geocaching the park can do both at the same time (plan is to get a few FTF options out of there to encourage the geocachers). Since we're participating in LBB, the City provides the empty trash bags, picks up the full bags, and covers the disposal costs.

Winona360 (edutech.tlt.winona.edu/winona360) is an online journalism site that was built for the Mass Communications Department of Winona State University. The site was built using the open-source content management system Drupal, and the talk will be more focused upon some working with some of the advanced Drupal features, and what was done with them to make the site work.

Slides from Jose's presentation can be found here.

Social: Sunday March 7th

On Sunday March 7th in Owatonna, the Owatonna Curling Club will be holding an open house. This is your opportunity to see live curling, learn about curling and even try curling for free. They're no longer allowing individual small groups to come for free as Tina's taken some of you in the past, so this may be your best option. Don't forget to bring clean tennis shoes. Details can be found on the club website http://owatonnacc.org

Alternate social: Sunday February 21st

Celebrate the Chinese New Year by going out for Chinese with your fellow K-LUGgers. The Chinese New Year is actually on Valentine's Day this year, which I figured was asking for trouble for trying to get enough seats in a restaurant, so we'll go a week late. 6 pm, Hunan at 844 South Broadway near Kmart. RSVP's are due to Tina by lunchtime on Wednesday February 17th so reservations can be made.

Lunch: Thursday February 18th

Technical Meeting: Thursday February 11th

Chris Abbey on digital photo processing. Those of you who went on the October social photowalks, send your pictures to Chris in advance or bring them to the meeting. Culling is the first step, so don't feel like you need to reduce in advance the pictures you took.

Technical Meeting: Thursday January 14 - IBM SameTime 3D - Virtual Collaboration in 3D Meeting Rooms - Demo by Tim Massaro

-> When: Thursday Jan 14th, 6-7:30pm

-> Where:RCTC Heintz Center

Room HA107 (or HA109)

Directions to Campus
Heintz Center Building Map

SameTime 3D allows users to collaborate via voice, textchat, avatars and various meeting specific tools. Upload a presentation and invite others to join you in a virtual 3D meeting space.

Why use 3D for Meetings?

Meetings are about people getting together to do things - with 3D meetings you see all the others as avatars throughout the meeting.

Social interactions are more natural with avatars. The expressiveness of avatars help co-workers communicate in a natural and personal way that helps them get to know each other - leading to more trust and better collaboration.

Work in 3D. Organize in 3D, build in 3D, present and interact in 3D

We'll also go over topics for future meetings...Need some ideas? Here are topics your fellow K-LUGgers have requested.

Also, elections are coming up please consider volunteering.
