You can also purchase apples, gourds, pumpkins, etc, if you needed some fall supplies, and there's a small animal farm to entertain the kids with too. Yes, bring your friends and family. The kids maze takes ~15 minutes, the adults maze ~1 hour.

| Description: Free telephone system for your home or office. Asterisk is an open source PBX telephony solution. The presentation will consist of some simple background into telephony explaining some terms. From there I will show the set up files (.conf) and how to add users and program a simple dial plan also showing the Asterisk GUI. Then I will crank up an Asterisk server and we will connect some soft and hard phones to it and see if we can make some phone calls so bring your laptop. If time permits there is a ready to go ISO installer called Trixbox that makes setting up Asterisk extremely easy with a nice web based GUI.

The 12D departs downtown at 11:15 and arrives at Walmart North at 11:35 am. Or if you're running late, the 12D also leaves downtown at 11:35, arriving at 11:55. Returning to downtown can be accomplished on the 12:20 (12:45) or 12:40 (1:00 pm) buses. Not being familiar with the layout of BWW or where the IBM crew usually sits, if anyone wants to attend who is not familiar with our members by face, please speak up and we'll try to make ourselves easier to spot.

| Our January meeting will feature "mind mapping" software and a product called Freemind. Freemind is especially good at "fast" brainstorming, with graphical forking or branching to new ideas. With Freemind it's easy to move information around and re-associate it, assign attributes, etc. There is a linux version available and there are several other "brands" of mind mapping software. Mo Holahan will be doing this demo for us.

Bring masking tape. Also responsible for taking down at the end of the night. Find a door stop so we can prop the room door open. The masking tape and a pen are also useful for posting a sign above the pizza/pop, saying it's available for donation. And for putting a label on a cup as being the donation collection container.

| Plone is a web based open source content management system (CMS) built off of the Python programming language. What do I need a content management system for? I'm not a book publisher or magazine; even though my glossy finish might make you think that way. The person that needs a content management system is every knowledge worker - which today, is everyone. We all need ways of managing the knowledge we work with and content types that are flexible to match the work we do. In the past, I've loved wiki for filling part of this role, but as I look at what wiki gets you it is not the whole picture. Sometimes, you need a tool chest instead of a hammer - this is where Plone fits in as your own secret tool chest.

| What you get with Plone is a scalable, object oriented, pluggable system that handles all of your content management needs. Plone itself is actually a collection of plugins that give you the code to represent the objects that will eventually represent your data. So you might ask, on what is Plone built upon if it is just a collection of plugins? It is actually built off a very complete web framework for the Python scripting language named Zope. So yes, it is a collection of utilities from Python -> Zope -> Plone to get to the tool, but all of that hierarchy gives you a full framework to do everything and hooks and methods ready for your use.

| The December "technical" meeting (ie gaming) will be held at the standard day and time, Tuesday December 12th, 6 pm. Since things just don't seem to be panning out for gaming at Cinemagic or Chateau (more details will remain below), we're going with the old standby of Lounge51 (formerly Xgames).

| Location: Lounge51, 115 North Broadway, this is next door to the Senior Center and just south of the railroad tracks. This is NOT the old Xgames location.

| When: Tuesday December 12th, 6 pm. However they open at 10 am, so you're welcome to start earlier. Also, while Lounge51's posted closing time is 9 pm, if three or more people want to keep playing and they're paying hourly rates, Lounge51 stay open later.

| Cost: $5/hour if a non-member. Other options are memberships or day passes.
| |
| Snacking options: Pop, sugar, snack foods, basically anything that doesn't actually require a food license for them to sell.

| Games available (and # of simultaneous players allowed): They have 24 computers. See http://lounge51.com/content/Games.aspx for a 6-12 month old list of games. Many more are now available. As far as licensing, that varies. Some games are available on every computer at once, and for those it's not available all at once it sounds like things are at least improved over Xgames' limitations. Socialbrowse was conceived by co-founders Zachary Garbow and David Fowler as part of Silicon Valley's Y Combinator startup program. Socialbrowse aims to change the “static, individual” experience of browsing the Web into a more social and dynamic one. The first version of the product allows people who use the Firefox browser to install a program that creates a real-time sidebar of links and comments shared by their friends. After recently closing a seed stage round of funding, they will soon be launching an ambitious new version of Socialbrowse that serves as a platform for social browsing applications, which run on any web browser without any installation.
Zachary will provide a sneak peek of this new version, currently under development. He'll demonstrate how anyone can develop and deploy custom collaborative applications quickly and easily using the next generation of http://Socialbrowse.com

K-LUG has an "in" at the local Wehrenberg theater and a few members attended an impromptu tour of the projection booth there a few weeks ago. It was so much fun we've decided to offer it for everyone this month as our main meeting topic. Let's meet at 6PM in the "drive-in" feature of the lobby. The tour will take 30mins to an hour. After the tour people can choose to stay and watch a movie or not. We are recommending the group attend the new animated 3D movie Up which is getting great reviews and is rated PG.

Processing is an open source programming language and environment for people who want to program images, animation, and interactions. It is used by students, artists, designers, researchers, and hobbyists for learning, prototyping, and production. It is created to teach fundamentals of computer programming within a visual context and to serve as a software sketchbook and professional production tool. Processing is also used in connection with Arduino (which was the subject of our Feb meeting)
We'll also be celebrating Pi day a little early.

Details on the Arduino Presentation
Arduino is an open source hardware and software project designed to make microcontrollers easy to use. It is based on the Atmel ATmega168, consisting of a defined hardware implementation with several form factors for different applications. The software development system is based on a C subset with predefined functions to take advantage of the hardware features. The intent is to provide an easy to use system for people to use in their creative endeavors - rather than worrying about low level details. Dennis DeLorme spent the majority of his career working on data base and file system implementation on the S/38, AS/400, and iSeries. Most recently he has been involved with the Roadrunner and Blue Gene supercomputing systems. For relaxation he enjoys the simplicity of working with microcontrollers. He has implemented a variety of projects using processors from Intel, Motorola, Microchip and now the Atmel AVR based Arduino.
Also on the agenda will be a mini-presentation by Jon Tollefson on syncing Google Calendar (where we've got Linux and social activities posted), which was originally scheduled for January but delayed due to a full agenda.
